The Portuguese coach has expressed his initial welcome to coaching Al-Ahly, but he has set several basic conditions, foremost among them completing the season with Al-Fateh, awaiting the retention bonus stipulated in his current contract.
Gomes has stipulated that negotiations proceed through official channels, requesting Al-Ahly to negotiate directly with Al-Fateh’s management and to pay the full penalty clause, in order to maintain his professional image and avoid repeating the scenario with Zamalek.
After the leak of Al-Ahly’s negotiations, some officials from Zamalek moved to try to attract Gomes again, but the coach completely rejected the offer, confirming his full commitment to his Saudi club until the end of the season.
Gomes is considered one of the most prominent coaches who have worked in the Arab region, due to his rich technical experience in the Gulf and Egypt, in addition to his ability to combine outstanding performance with tactical discipline.
