Real Madrid Decides to Renew Contracts of Team Stars for a Short Period

Real Madrid Club decided to temporarily renew the contracts of stars Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez for just two weeks, extending them until July 13, 2025, instead of their contracts ending on June 30, to ensure their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

This move comes in response to a request from FIFA, which recommended clubs to make short renewals with players whose contracts are expiring during the tournament, which will take place from June 15 to July 13.

This decision reflects the appreciation of the players’ roles within the dressing room, as Modric is the first captain and Vazquez is the third captain of the team, and they will ensure participation in the group stage against Al Hilal, Pachuca, and Salzburg, with contracts extending if the team qualifies for the knockout stages.

Despite the temporary renewal, the continuation of the players for an additional season seems difficult, especially for Lucas Vazquez, given the return of Carvajal to form and the nearing official signing of Alexander Arnold, who may even be registered in the Club World Cup roster.

As for Modric, he has a slim chance of continuing, provided he reduces his salary and accepts a substitute role; the Croatian player wishes to continue until the 2026 World Cup with his national team, but the final decision will be made after the end of the season.
