Gündoğan said: “When you have Antonio Rüdiger in your team, you feel that he is a great player who gives you a lot, but when you face him as an opponent, he is extremely annoying.”
He added: “Rüdiger has a provocative and aggressive style on the field, and this is his usual way, but unfortunately, in the cup final, he crossed the red lines.”
He continued: “Despite my good knowledge of him, I cannot justify what he did; he made a big mistake.”
Gündoğan emphasized that the expected punishment for Rüdiger after what happened at La Cartuja Stadium will be appropriate: “Rüdiger will meet the punishment 100%, and this is fair; he now has to face the consequences, both at the sporting level and in public opinion, especially in Germany.”
Despite his criticism of Rüdiger’s behavior, Gündoğan clarified that he does not doubt his character, saying: “On the field, Rüdiger is an emotional and passionate player, and this benefits the team a lot; I have experienced this same experience with him in the national team.”
He concluded his statements by saying: “I know him as a family man, and he has always helped me in conversations; I will never doubt his true character off the field.”
