Arteta: I Felt the Pain of Losing the League Deep Inside, and Liverpool Deserves the Title
In a press conference ahead of the Bournemouth match tomorrow, Saturday, in the 35th round of the Premier League, Arteta spoke candidly about his feelings after losing the title race, emphasizing his respect for Liverpool’s achievement.
Arteta said: “Honestly, it was painful; I felt it deep inside. We were close, but I have to say that Liverpool was the most consistent team this season.”
He added: “It is never easy to say it should have been Arsenal’s year; football does not recognize assumptions. All we can do now is focus on what remains of the season.”
He continued: “We still have a lot to play for; we are competing in the Champions League and the Premier League, and our focus is entirely on delivering the best performance possible in every match.”
Regarding the chances of finishing the season in the top five, which are estimated at 99.6% according to Opta statistics, the Spanish coach commented: “The message is very clear; we have to earn the win in every match, starting with the Bournemouth game. We do not pay much attention to expectations; we focus on performance and discipline.”
He concluded: “The only thing we can control is our performance and our mental state. We did not achieve what we aspired to, but we will fight until the end.”
At the end of his statements, Arteta extended special congratulations to Liverpool after their triumph, saying: “I congratulate Liverpool on their performance; they showed consistency and deserved to win. They have proven over the past years their ability to win major titles, and this does not happen by coincidence, but thanks to hard work and excellent organization.”
