According to the website “CaughtOffside”, the Spanish club has initiated talks with Tottenham to secure Romero’s services, but the gap between the clubs in valuations still exists.
In a move to facilitate negotiations, Atletico Madrid is considering offering winger Rodrigo Riquelme as part of the deal. The Spanish player, who had a brief loan spell at Bournemouth this season, has struggled for game time and could be the key to reaching an agreement with Tottenham.
Although Atletico blocked Riquelme’s transfer to Aston Villa and Villarreal in January, the club may now be willing to allow him to leave if it contributes to signing Romero.
Tottenham hopes to renew its attacking options, and while they may receive an offer to sign Riquelme, it appears that Spanish player Conor Gallagher is the preferred option for the London club.
At the same time, Tottenham is facing interest from Manchester City in their defender Pedro Porro, making the transfer market exciting for many significant moves from the London team.
