Al-Mashel denied any intention to increase the number of league clubs.
The Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported Al-Mashel’s statements after the AFC Champions League final on this matter, where he said: “This matter is closed, and it is impossible to organize high-level tournaments and suddenly change your mind about increasing the number of clubs. Any decision must be announced before the start of the season, and once the season begins, it is very difficult to make changes.”
Regarding the Kingdom hosting the Club World Cup in 2029, he said: “This has not been determined yet by FIFA, and Saudi Arabia is ready to host the biggest events, and each incident has its own discussion, and we are eager to host any football tournament.”
